Alison Green Myers writes young adult novels, the scarier the better. While her voice pleases the young adult crowd, her eye wanders to picture book design in her studies and instruction. She is a National Writing Fellow and an ARA for Eastern Pennsylvania’s chapter of SCBWI. She also works with the Highlights Foundation to plan and facilitate writers’ workshops at their Northeastern Pennsylvania retreat center. Alison contributes to the Foundation's blog as well as Kid Lit Ink marketing blog and HERE with her Ink Sister, Kim.

KIM BRIGGS
Kim once crashed into a tree while skiing. The accident led to a concussion, a cracked sternum, temporary notoriety as a sixth grader returned from the dead, and the realization that fictionalized accounts are way more interesting than just slipping on the ice. 

An unhealthy obsession with conspiracy theories combined with a love of travel and happily ever afters led Kim to write her YA novel, Starr Fall, where a secret organization decides 17 year old Starr Bishop is not only the model student, but the ideal assassin. While in hiding, Starr meets dark, moody, and dead sexy Christian Evergood. Cue the swoon worthy music. But it’s not all happily ever afters for Kim. Her NA novel, And Then He, explores the dark and scary corners of the human psyche. Following a night of innocent flirting with a handsome stranger, Tiffani finds herself in the midst of a nightmare she can’t escape. And Then He is available now through Amazon and other major book retailers. Starr Fall debuted November 2016 with Inkspell Publishing. Starr Lost & Starr Gone released January & June, 2017.

When she’s not doing something writerly, Kim can be found jumping into snow drifts with her three kids, husband, and dog. She’s careful to avoid trees. 
Kim is the Co-Regional Advisor to SCBWI Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter. Through SCBWI, she met her writing group, Ink Sisters. The Sisters destruct plot and kill characters all the while cracking her up. Kim also contributes to the Kid Lit Ink marketing blog. Kim’s family gives her the courage to survive the crazy world of publishing.

FIRST SNOW by Bomi Park: Classroom Activity and Review

Dear Kim, Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! We had fun with Bomi Park's gorgeous FIRST SNOW last week. We used the book as a mentor text to explore personal narratives and poetry.  We also explored watercolor resist techniques. (We also made a mess-- which is kind of my modus operandi during writing workshop. Sorry, Kelley! ) I used the sentence starter from the jacket copy: Look up. One flake falls, then another. And just like that—it's __ __ __ __ __ __ __ . The kids worked cooperatively at their table groups to discuss what word might fill in the blank. I love hearing them chat.  "Well it is a snowflake because 'one flake'."  Followed by: "No. It has seven letters, snowflake has nine."  And: "It is an action. A-- what's that called-- a verb because it is something falling."  Eventually we filled in the blank by using spelling clues to check our thinking, which might not sound like a whole lot of fun, but spell...

SCBWIEPA Pocono Highlights #2: Get into Character

Dear Alison, I am a closet illustrator. I admire illustrators' ability to capture a moment, a feeling, a thought, an action in a single illustration. I even went to Zachariah OHora's Illustrator Session (I'll talk about that session another time) in hopes that I could glean some of his creative genius. I was so inspired I decided to create a post through pictures. So here goes... The Pocono Retreat 2016 was all about character and we kicked off the weekend Friday night with a costume party...
